I wish i had
Taken a photograph of you
Standing before the mirror
Wearing your new red and pewter gray tie
That day.
A rite of passage
-a moment made timeless.
Your hands fumbled with your tie
As you stood looking in the mirror as you
Had done
So many times before.
Only this time was different somehow.
You had become older
As if over night.
The silky threads of strawberry blond
Were the same.
The eyes that looked
Back at you
The same bottomless blue.
From the window
Tiny pools of light reflected in them.
Wonderous, proud.
Your hands straightened your tie
As you looked into the mirror.
The face looking back at you wasn’t that of a child’s.
You were older,
Changed in some ways
Yet the same. By J.Hamilton
