I found a picture

Of you

Sitting in the sunlight

Of my white

paint chipped window.

The faded picture

Yellowed

And basking in sun

Seems warm under my fingers.

I wish I knew you then

But you would meet me

One day

In a peach colored birthing room.

The blood on your thin gown

Proof

That I had finally arrived.

Yet

I wish I could have

Become part of your earlier life

-to see you as you were then,

Not who you became later or who you are now.

It seems as if yesterday I picked flowers for you

And lay my cheek on your powered skin

And today

I watch as your memories and your dreams

Summon you

And

-I wish

I could go back

To the time you stood

WIth the sunlight in your eyes

Waiting

For your photograph to be taken,

And

Waiting for the life

Ahead
